Common opinion of one’s emotional state and reaction sees them as unknown yet inherent. The “unstable” and less prestigious have reactions they would not prefer with shitty outcomes. Even the charming or clever exist with a sense of wonder and veiled expression anticipating a stage cue. I propose an exercise, a stretching of sorts, to gauge how one’s presumed mysterious emotional reactions measure and bend.
Physical action is triggered by heightened emotional reaction so work backwards. Both, fast paced deep breathing and slow deep breathing. If you want to shake or blink rapidly or anything as such to further boost your body’s state, that would be beneficial to this exercise for the obvious side of the reaction. The other can be helped by closing your eyes and being in a relaxed position; perhaps light stretching, massaging or gently caressing your hair or skin. Engage fully in these actions before you begin exploring your emotional expanses.
Once you have physically felt yourself out, it is time to find the emotion’s of a birthday suit attire. Run through your mind something horrible. Truly terrible in nuance, not extent; having your mother brutally murdered by autobots doesn’t really work here. Details will run the litmus real so get into every pore of the fantasy, and feel out your reaction. The point is to make the mental adventure so gripping and your body’s reaction so already running that emotions will jump to where they go. The biggest trick is to use real situations that you fear or desperately want.
Do the fears and angers first always so that when you do the positives, your day will flow forward from that point. Unless you want to combat the bad ones, but thats my preference.
Now for the good. Imagine your favorite person being fabulous to you and the great things you want coming to you. Remember, you deserve them. Focus on nuance to create a reality and take not of, but do not judge, your emotional reactions. See what you really want, what you think you want and what would actually make you happy.
