In any large goal there are many factors involved. Time management, human interactions and clashes at different levels and from different cultures, money investments and expenditure scheduling, blah blah blah. Looking at every single fire one has to put out as a big picture is a great way to induce emotional vertigo creating personal nausea. The simplification of life is how one takes care explicitly of each small action that makes up the entire scope. This is a short system I’ve been using to help people skydive for their first time. I ask if they want to be more scared or less scared and how they answer determines which way I tell them to look at things.
Legwork is where you’re going and what you have to physically do. This includes talking and traversing the world. Both of these activities can be practiced and seen in themselves without any of the stress involved or in the situation at all. Go walk up to a tree and ask it to marry you, go do it right the fuck now! You may look a little strange to your neighbors and the hobo living in your tree will be dumbfounded, but now you have practiced the motion. When you find the person you want to do that with, you can remind yourself that you’ve done this before and just to focus on the motions. With skydiving in tandem, all people need to do is waddle forward in the plane, learn forward, tuck their legs behind their instructors butt and keep your elbows against your chest with your hands on your chest harness, then when you land just put your feet out. In a business sense, all you have to do is walk into the office, and say “I have done blah blah, and it is fitting that I get a raise” or whatever you have to say. Those words exist outside the stressful situation, can be practiced and when or if the anxiety overwhelms one then they can return to the reduced concept of that.
Doing the head work is a more abstract game. What we believe in is what we strive towards and what we we don’t, we give up on. The idea here is to calculate out what you need to do to succeed and envision the you of a succeeding position, fantasize a little. Then allow that to be just as reliable and sure as the sun will set tonight. Create a concept to compare it to on a similar level and tell yourself, same faith and likelihood. It sounds crazy to manipulate this and then when you start to figure out what you believe certain things is by social repetition and anxiety, it becomes more of a mature and logical thing to do.
