Here is a theory I have on my family and other addiction to leaving important things to the last second. Excitement is stimulating and human consciousness is strongly affected by sensory adaptation. More fun something is, less we are stimulated by anything less. So with the stress of procrastination and the success which rewards a huge relaxation sensation, similar to when you stop hitting yourself in the head with a hammer, there is an issue of finding anything important via lack of stimulation until it has become stressful and is now procrastination. The joke I used to make is that Im waiting until the time is ripe. It is a reoccurring incident in bright, effective, respected, responsible people. But it is clearly not any of those qualities which define those people.

For some time I believe it to be associated an issue with “having” to do a task rather than “getting” to do a task. It is thrust, forced upon us rather than achieved. However those are simply subjective perspectives from differing areas of relevance in both time and opinion. Everything is something one gets to do because they did the thing before it, because they were allowed or needed to, because they are alive and have that opportunity. Of the same light, we have to do these things if we chose to see another person involved as a boss attempting to control us. Tautology all of this perception bending game but a real game the mind has already played. Yet it is clearly more of a chemical issue as made transparent when one talks to a successful or bright individual continuing these obviously poor habits.
