The act of treating a person differently because they were born less than or now have less than is actually creating an expectation and demeaning them for not living up to it. Think about if you had been born with wings and you constantly said to people,”Oh my goodness, you don’t have wings? You poor thing…” This is what happens to autistic, handicap, people damaged from car accidents and war and so on. A person simply is what they are now. The past may have had different options, one with different dynamics and options but to constantly compare the current state to an old one is both stupid and insulting. Allowing a person to be what they are in current state and celebrating them by relating to them and allowing the space to be important is not just great, but deserved. That is a conscious being. All the thoughts and experiences in a life occurred to them and they have free will. Losing an arm, having brain damage, being crippled is not preferable but it does not define a life and it’s atrocious to treat someone as such. Equity is preferable to equality in social treatment but that does not mean staring at one particular thing a person has about them. Staring means obsessing on a single facet instead of seeing a bigger picture.
