The mind is a terrible thing to waste infers that a person has the a ability to exist and not use their brain properly. An unexamined life is not worth living even goes as far as Socrates saying that indeed one is alive but it’s a waste without understanding what that means. The way memory forms is interesting in that we must first take in stimulus to have material with which to weave ideas but stimulus is not what we know nor what sticks. How the weaving occurs is effort and action of one’s mind.
The connective nature of thoughts is what organizes and holds stimulus inside ones brain. We are occurently aware of thirteen out of the two-thousand things concurrently available around us. Human brains are that aware then that minuscule in capacity. Until a thought occurs that a person relates and networks to older thoughts, that idea exists untethered. The more observations, judgments, inquiries, prognosis and timelines are created the more that thought is networked and will stay in ones mind. It’s not just interweaving but giving life to an idea so it doesn’t just die instantly.
The human mind forms a matrix. What you’re now touching or reading or doing are not things you feel but things that your brain tells you you feel. The confines of this matrix are created by older reliable and seemingly validated observations. You’re not touching a butt, your hand receives stimulation so your brain tells you that you’re touching a butt. Now this is important because of two things worth not forgetting: the brain can miss things in its known matrix for new items which don’t fit and the brain won’t retain new things until you create spots for them in that matrix.
Having ideas that stay and are fully formed occurs with mental action. These actions take energy in the change of behavior but become habit after they’re learned comfortably and understood or labeled as normal. Here is where one can train or ruin themselves with free will. As we observe and take note does our mental note taking create and network thoughts. Recreating the experience and observations in the mind is putting our matrix building skills to work for us rather than taking petty care of us by instinct. I’ve met some people who do this famously by instinct and some whom work very hard to have incredibly matrix making skills. As always though, it’s what you do with your ability that makes it worth while.
As a person reads, do the words make sounds in their head and end there? Or do the symbols evoke replications or what they represent in the mind? Are there questions that follow these sentences as they’re translated from the page into ones mind? To visceralize is to create a sensory mental reaction to an experience, a vibrant evocation of feelings. The more detailed and connected this mental creation is, the better understood and memorized the book becomes. And, again, it’s a habit one can learn or unlearn with mental atrophy vs new mental exercise.
It’s very important to remove poor habits and perspectives in order to fully grasp and properly use good new skills. Recognizing that ones mind is used to be overstimulated is pretty easy and rapidly common in this age. It will feel like withdrawals to let go of that, one even may find themselves psychosomatically creating depression symptoms. They go away, it gets better. Jumping to the easiest and quickest thing is 99%, shit thought process. Saying no more often and dismissing things is a good move for this. Question what “pleases” you until you can enumerate the reasons and foundations instead of estimate and assume them. Being involved at a constant with your higher brow thought processes and mental storing and diagnosing actions sounds exhausting… But it’s already always being done by you. This is just doing it better. Best and simplest blanket description is to do the same thing with yourself and actions as you would with a thought; recreate it in your mind and make it highly detailed. Create the smartest version of you as an abstract idea that is precisely planned and understood, then pose the question,”what would they do today?”. Integrate integrity by making great ideas into great actions. It takes some effort but so does giving a fuck.
Understanding yourself is a surreal study question. I myself remember things best emotionally and auditorily but I integrate things better visually. Figuring out ways that this behavior can be best used or best grow is the goal of a transhumanist, a philosopher King. Realizing how you recall and think most preferably is a self watching activity; not hard but maybe odd for some. Once these current preferences are realized, then can one move to entering better use of them into networking and a visceral recreation to ones own mental matrix. As those normal strengths become adept, involving more senses and then adding in more adept questions to the brain habit all will start happening more readily.
Finally, recreating thoughts and making the brain a powerful function has two more golden rules. They can be abused and misused so don’t forget the foundation. The first is to give yourself credit and keep in mind that you are smart and this is true growth. By doing it you’re proving yourself intelligent. Keep count if you want but since you fully grasp the idea, it’s quite easy to acknowledge and believe it’s a good growth activity. The second is to seek out smarter stimulus. This means publications, practices, and people. Stop reading crap websites and short posts from buzzfeed or shit off Facebook that’s going viral. Read the New Yorker, read the A.V. Club, and be critical of what information you surround yourself with. It is what your brain works with and assumes itself to be like. Read a fucking good book. This is not being a pretentious douche but an active move to be smarter and uplift your world.
