Our brains work best when memory are tied to a sensation or emotion. We have all had experiences where people talked and it droned to us, or we would feel and even see grey. We can repeat or change what a person says into pictures or adjust and warp the way it sounds in our head. Seeing images instead of words is one extremely beneficial way to memorize and think faster as words and speaking take much longer than moving images. Our brain also evolved with images and spacial reasoning, not writing. Use that when a coworker or a boring part of work or school that you hate is drowning you in apathy. Then it is an exercise to make your brain better! You are getting smarter, not being bored and doing stupid crap!!
Examples I will now provide so I don’t sound like a crackpot. First visually create what the person is saying. Then, this is best done with all visceralizations, imagine the opposite of it and then the characteristics of it. Restrictions, limits, possibilities, usefulnesses. Give it colors and shape or put it somewhere silly but give it detail. If Steve is telling you about how the new copy machine can’t make more than six copies at once, imagine six copies of giant penguins screaming for their lost leader who can’t be there. See the number six being mounted by the copy machine. Imagine people forgetting that it can only make six and ruining a project. Create the image of how you will succeed or fuck up in this situation with six copies and make associations with that which hold importance to you.
For auditory, pick a new voice to hear it in. Change the pitch or put the message to a song as they speak or repeat it afterwards in your head. Create or associate sounds with what was said to give it more connections in your mind. Imagine where it shouldn’t be said or where it would be best said.
For smells and textures, wonder what the texture of what a person is saying has. Watch their tone and see how it changes your perception of it. Imagine where this texture or smell will conflict and irritate. Create silly smells and textures, then associate them with sounds and images all to establish more detail and created thought.
Doing this will teach your mind to start doing it naturally. The more connections an idea has the more easily accessible it is and better networked therefore remembered an idea is.
