When you’re younger and new to the world, people constantly feel the need to advise you on everything you do. And some of it is good, helpful information, like: “Don’t cross the street when a car is coming.” But some of it, is not necessary, like: “You’d be so much prettier if you were just 10 pounds lighter.”
You’ll spend the rest of your life sorting through these pieces of advice and weeding out the ones you don’t need. This process get’s easier when you’re not one of the people giving yourself such unnecessary remarks.

(And Dad’s response:)
Jess, please don’t cross the street when a car is coming – the driver will be awestruck by your beauty and crash!
You’re an amazing person inside and out – thanks for sharing your wisdom
Love, Dad
